Hans Muench, MBA

Hans Muenchยดs started his fitness journey in 1970 training with Olympic athletes at the Fitness Institute in Toronto as a ranked junior tennis player. Living in Europe for most of his adult life, he ran tennis programs in Austria, Germany and Switzerland, and launched a tennis-fitness-mental training camp in Italy 1986-87. He also worked in several facilities in Hong Kong, and as Project Manager in one of Germanyยดs largest racquet facilities (Oase, Bochum), where he designed and implemented the fitness facility. Over years of involvement with IHRSA began in 1982 as a member, then researched the European Fitness market 1984-85 while earning his Masters in International Development from University of South Carolina, USA. He served the world trade association for health clubs from 1994 – 1999 as their first Director of International Development, and again 2017-2016 as Director of EMEA. He has been a speaker at events in 18 countries across the globe, supporting members and suppliers, supporting partners and attending approx. 100 events as the “eyes, ears and face” of IHRSA in Europe. As Chief Development officer for the club chain Fit Plus / Elixia, Hans gained insight into club acquisitions and private equity. Hans has also worked 12 years on the distribution side of the fitness and leisure business (Life Fitness and Nautilus) and has served several software companies.
Hans calls in Winterthur, Switzerland his home since 2014.
From 2016 โ 2020 Hans was a lecturer at the German University of Fitness, Health and Prevention in their MBA programme. He has his own company (MSC GmbH) and has served dozens of clients in various capacities (presentations, strategic planning, distribution assistance, market research, club / study / inspiration tours in various countries. He primarily works with suppliers and club operators who are focused on growth, especially across borders. He supports the Fitness Industry Technology Council as their Director of International Development and supports the โCool Fitness Huntโ Project of Professor Carl Rohde (University Tilburg, visiting professor Barcelona and Shanghai).

Dr Paul Batman
A well renowned industry expert, Paul has written over 100 articles and is a leading authority on the value of Movement.

Dr. Paul Batman has worked in health, fitness and sport for over 40 years. Originally a Physical Education teacher and then an Academic lecturing in Exercise Science at Australian Universities for over 20 years and for the last 18 years as owner and operator of two successful Registered Training Organisations (Fitness Institute Australia and Australian College) specializing in developing and delivering vocational educational courses in health, fitness and sport to thousands of fitness professionals. Paul received his Diploma of Physical Education from Australian College of Physical Education, Diploma of Education from Hawthorn State College, BSc and MSc from the University of Oregon (USA) and a PhD from the University of New South Wales. For over 25 years Paul has presented at international conventions in Australia, Canada, United Kingdom, Singapore and Malaysia and conducted lectures, workshops and in house presentations in many countries throughout the world. In 2012 Paul was awarded a Lifetime Achievement Award for his services to the Australian Fitness Industry, inducted into the Australian College of Physical Education Hall of Fame and recognized as an Institute Scholar at the International Institute for Sport and Human Performance, University of Oregon. Paul has written over a hundred articles on all aspects health and fitness and authored or co-authored 10 books.
Dr Chris Loxley
Chris is a highly experienced Consumer Behaviour specialist who brings a valuable and insightful perspective to our movement.
He was instrumental in reviewing and refining the MHQ to shape its launch into the health, fitness and wellness industry.
When Chris is not riding his bike he spends his time understanding how we think. People don’t think how they feel, they don’t say what they think and don’t do what they say… for the past 25 years Chris has been working on unlocking the unseen opportunities that reside in the hidden and often unspoken thought processes of the human mind. Chris has background in psychology, R&D and healthcare. He has a fist degree, Masters and PhD in psychology & research methods.
Dr. Helen Wall
Helen is a senior lecturer in Psychology at Edge Hill University and specializes in applied psychometrics. Helensโ research interests are in the areas of individual differences psychology and wellbeing. Helen is currently working with a range of practitioners to examine the role of personality similarity between therapist and client on the therapeutic alliance and clinical outcomes. Helen is a fully trained solution focused practitioner and is also a member of the British Psychological Societyโs list of register test users.
Dr. Stergios Makris
Dr. Stergios Makris is a Senior Lecturer in Psychology. Stergios is a BPS chartered psychologist with particular research interests in biological psychology and neuroscience. Part of his research work is looking at the brain mechanisms involved in human perception and action and he has previously worked with professional expert athletes to investigate their superior perceptual and action skills. More recently he has been involved in research projects looking at the neural underpinnings of eating behavior, as well as how discriminatory bias can affect the way we perceive other people. He is an expert at the use of non-invasive brain stimulation techniques, such as transcranial magnetic stimulation (TMS) and direct current stimulation (tDCS). Most of his research work is now published in internationally recognized peer-reviewed scientific journals and he has presented in more than 50 national and international conferences.
Rachael Young
Our expert on all things equality and diversity as well as being a founder advocate of MH1โs ambition to drive the mental wellbeing message through holistic activity and lifestyle change.
I am Director of Business Development for Myzone (EMEA) and I have over 30 years of experience in the fitness industry, a sector which I am very passionate about and committed to. I am a WIFA ambassador and the vice chair of EuropeActive’s Inclusion advisory group, which sit in the community pillar of the horizons 2025 Manifesto.
I believe I was put on this planet to get people moving both physical and mentally and have experience first hand the positive benefits that activity has on our mind health. We all have thoughts and as such these can have a positive or negative impact on of mental health and ultimately or physical performance.
Samuel Mattioli MSc.
Sam Mattioli is a Performance Management architect. As a consultant and CEO of Graystone Corporation, he is a โTraining and Developmentโ entrepreneur, and an experienced creator of corporate Universities, with a track record that includes helping companies reach new levels of success. Over his career, Sam has designed and delivered more than 60 widely-recognized training programs internationally. Rounding out his practical experience, Sam is currently an active Master Trainer, Global Digital Trainer/Producer and is certified to deliver the entire curriculum for Dale Carnegie & Associates. In addition, Sam is an Associate Tutor working with undergraduates for the University of Leicester, UK in the subjects of Social Sciences, Human Resources and Training. Sam is also a Teacher for Cambridge College and Fremont University in Los Angeles.
Andrรฉe Deane-Barron
Andree has been an education and public affairs consultant since she left Central YMCA as Group Director of Education in July 2018. She is a fitness education sector expert with three published books and an extensive entrepreneurial business career spanning the fitness, pharmaceutical and construction sectors. As a previous school teacher and FE lecturer she holds both a Bachelor and Masterโs degree in Education. She authored the first sports coaching and exercise teaching NVQs and she also served as the CEO of the Fitness Industry Association (now UK Active) for 10 years. Andree was Chair of TimeBank, the national volunteering charity, between 2012 and 2018. In the past four years Andree has represented many organisations as a government affairs specialist and policy expert.
Dr. Karlie Intlekofer
Dr. Karlie Intlekofer is a neuroscientist who focuses on the benefits of exercise for health and well-being. She uses evidence-based findings to help others improve stress management andย exercise motivation, supporting healthy lifestyles. Herย passion for this field stems from a background in teaching, brain research and personal training.
